Well, this one put a smile on my face for the day. The W3C is considering adding a “Not Safe For Work” tag to the HTML5 suite of markup tags which would work in unison with web browsers which would feature an option to automatically hide any of the content within those tags.

I especially like how the W3C chose to use a picture in an example of how the tag would work. I’m immature at times, I know.

“One of the most common descriptive notes people have to write using text when
they post links or images to blogs, comments or anywhere in HTML is to say
“this link is not safe for work” or simply “NSFW”. By adding the tag,
this could be made much simpler and standardized. Browsers could then have an
option to automatically hide all content. A tag is preferred to an
attribute since it could then also be used around content and not just links.”

<nsfw><img src="badkitten.jpg"></nsfw>"</i></p>
