Change The Web Challenge
Today I’d like to feature a non-profit organization based in Canada and The States named Social Actions. What they do is they aggregate actions, or, things people can do to make a difference in the world in some way. The websites that Social Actions uses to aggregate their list of actions can be found at: http://www.socialactions.com/meet-the-platforms.

The challenge is for Web Application Developers to come together and make web applications which specifically display aggregated information from Social Actions of which it has collected from websites such as Change.org, Idealist.org, and even Delicious.com has gotten in on the information spread by listing all bookmarks tagged with “TakeAction”. Ideally the data will be displayed on the website or blog’s sidebar using some sort of code snippet or widget.

From the website: “Social Actions’ Change the Web Challenge is about building innovative tools to help people find and share opportunities to take action on the websites, blogs, and social networks that we all visit everyday.

The challenge is sponsored by PayPal, Convio, TakePart, and Challenge Your World.”

“Social Actions is facilitating this challenge to encourage innovations for distributing opportunities to make a difference across the Internet and mobile devices. Through a NetSquared Community vote, 20 finalists will be chosen. A panel of judges selected by Social Actions will choose 3 winners from among the 20 finalists, to be announced at NTEN’s Nonprofit Technology Conference, April 28th 2009. Winners will receive cash awards of $5,000 (first place), $3,000 (second place), and $2,000 (third place).

Individuals and organizations are invited to share their projects with the community through the NetSquared submission form. To be eligible for prizes, all submissions must 1) be fully functional by the time voting begins, 2) include an open-source license, and 3) make use of the Social Actions API.”

Submissions for the challenge will no longer be accepted after: Fri, April 3, 2009 – 3:00pm PST
