Ah yeah, now, who doesn’t just absolutely love the Space Invaders? Even with the simple 8bit architecture the game use to pimp, I would bet the amount of hours spent playing the game consecutively would rival, if not surpass, the amount of hours most spend playing a game like Grand Theft Auto. Why? Because it looked amazing? No. Well, not on any easily definable level. Was it because the game had the ability to connect to the internet at speeds only businesses could afford a few years back, or because you could freely assault prostitutes and steal money from them? Not even close…
We loved Space Invaders because the game rocked. Plain and simple — the game, the aliens, the packaging, the smell of the stale newly opened hard plastic casing, bearing that familiar videogame title in its somewhat punk-era, cheesy 80s horror movie typography, ….it was all we could stand.
So, today I’m posting a bunch of these great little Space Invaders images illuminating us as to their new found natural surroundings since we whooped ass on that faithful day 20 years ago. Some of these, actually most of these images, aren’t even architecture or art in an urban enviroment at all but merely layed over the surrounding image. Either way, here’s to the graphic designers who love the Space Invaders.
