A beta version of WordPress MU 2.7, the multi blog version of WordPress that runs on such sites as WordPress.com has just been uploaded and is available here.
Although this is called a beta, it is said to be very reliable and stable by the developers. The only thing that makes this a beta is, well, the fact that it isn’t the stable release. Go figure. The entire development process of Wordpress MU and its relatively mysterious tendrils within the CMS communities have always been something I never quite fully understood. If you get stuck on something though, you can try out the forums.
If you don’t know much about Wordpress however, I wouldn’t recommend you even attempt to switch out your normal Wordpress installation for the mu version(s). Not only is the documentation extremely sparse the last time I checked, but the community is nowhere near as strong as you would think it to be; inevitably making it even more difficult to find help with some of your more common mishaps.
I was notified of this release of Wordpress MU via: Donncha O Caoimh’s Blog who is a Wordpress developer. He’s also irish, so he inherently rocks — thus making his blog worthy of a trip any day of the week.
