Happy New Year, everyone!
Wow, what a year it’s been. For JungleJar, it’s been a rather good one. Our traffic goes up each month, visitor participation is way up as far as comments and emails I’ve received. It also seems as though most of you have become somewhat experts as far as installing our Wordpress templates goes. I don’t receive nearly as many emails asking questions about how to do this or that, which is quite refreshing. I’ve really tried to make an effort and help out each user individually, but I know I’ve looked over a few of you, or my emails have come far in between. I’m sorry about that, but it’s hard to devote so much personal time to so many people in a certain time period. On the up side, I’ve noticed that when I don’t reply to a few emails, most of you realize your answer is already answered in the readme.txt that comes with each template.
If you haven’t yet noticed, we’ve opened up new advertising options to start off the new year. You can now buy an advertising space in our sidebar, displayed site-wide, meaning it will be visible on all pages, for as little as $5/month! The $5/month ad space is at the bottom of the sidebar to the right. The 125×125 banner spaces at the top of the sidebar are only $10/month as it is. To view all of our advertising options, you can go to our advertising page.
JungleJar went through 5 different designs this year, can you believe that? No doubt this kept me incredibly busy. JungleJar has grown to the point where it’s quite a task keeping all of the internal workings coordinated and properly maintained. This also is something I brought on myself, though. The re-design, re-development process, lead me to have to check, re-check, and check again the display, the code validation, and the link validity of all of our content. Doesn’t sound too bad, I know, but it’s been over a month now since our last re-design, and I just now have all of the content in its right place.
I’m hoping to have a few new templates for Wordpress, and bbPress out as soon as possible. I’ll be learning the inner workings of bbPress as I go along, but it shouldn’t be too hard. I know it’s quality software, made by the guys over at automattic.com, the company or organization behind the Wordpress Content Management System.
Speaking of Wordpress, they sure had a busy year, didn’t they? They released so many different upgrades, it was hard for me to keep up with them all. Thank god for RSS and their development blog. A lot of the time I would be doing an update on JungleJar, and from my dashboard I would receive the news of an update. This, I thought, was a nice heads up, so I’ve kept those notifications coming in to said dashboard.
I admit, I’ve been kind of one-sided on the content management issue. I’ve really provided a lot of content for the Wordpress users, but not nearly as much content for users of the other various content management systems, such as Joomla and Drupal. I’m hoping to remedy this situation in the coming year.
If anyone out there is interested in writing for JungleJar, please either contact me through the contact form, or shoot an email to Christopher@JungleJar.com. You’ll have your own email address here on JungleJar and certainly more perks if you’re serious about helping provide content to the website. I look forward to hearing from at least some of you.
With all of that said, everyone have a great 2009, or at the very least, try to. It’s a fresh start, and I hope none of you started it out with a DWI.
Happy 2009!
