These websites are the “Big 3″ if you’re looking to sell your Website Template. I’ll talk a little bit about each and hopefully guide you in the right direction, based on the type and complexity of the template you’re trying to sell.
Sitepoint.com

Sitepoint is by far the best auction-style website to try to sell your template on. The auctions are legally binding, meaning you have a much better chance of actually getting someone to pay you, the sellers have a legit feedback ranking system that works, and in my own personal experiences, the potential buyers seem to know a lot more about what it is exactly they are bidding on in the first place.
The Sitepoint Template Auctions also seem to be more focused around Wordpress, which can be considered a pro or a con, based on the type of template you spend your time creating.
Let’s examine a few pros and cons of Sitepoint..
- Auctions are legally binding.
- Probably the most popular site for selling templates.
- Options for promoting your auction within the Sitepoint marketplace.
- Tons of custom features and options not found on the other two websites.
- User feedback and verification system that works pretty well.
- Costs money to list a template auction; However, it’s only $5.
- Infamous for going through “slow” periods.
- Using any sort of extra promotion to make your auction stand out costs more money.
DigitalPoint.com

I’ve had varying success with DigitalPoint. Typically, templates (especially Wordpress templates), won’t fetch as much as they generally would on Sitepoint. However, the DigitalPoint community tends to be a bit less picky and demanding about the templates they are bidding on.
Wordpress templates are arguably the strong seller here, but there has been a huge increase in the number of sellers who are selling Photoshop .PSD file “templates”. This isn’t really a template though, more so just what one would call a design or mockup.
You’ll also find quite a large market here for vBulletin skins, but I’ve noted this to be on somewhat of a decline with Photoshop .PSD files taking over this spot.
- Free to list your templates for sale.
- Pretty good marketplace for .PSD mockups and vBulletin skins.
- Has a bit of a more active template community than TalkFreelance.
- Auctions are not legally binding.
- Typical forum style layout. Your post can be pushed near the bottom of the page or onto the next page rather quickly.
- Generally, templates don’t fetch quite as much as they would on Sitepoint.
- It’s also not uncommon to receive a bit of spam in your forum inbox.
- Just a forum style posting. No bells and whistles like found on Sitepoint.
TalkFreelance.com

TalkFreelance is another relatively strong seller of the Wordpress templates, but generally, they’ll fetch around the same price tag that it would on DigitalPoint, or less. While user response to templates here can be quite wide-spread, it seems as though you have to push your template a bit more so than you would on DigitalPoint or Sitepoint.
This is the more popular of the three websites when it comes to vBulletin templates. It’s also been noted that Photoshop .PSD files are on the rise here. Currently it would even seem that the Photoshop .PSD file mockups are more popular than Wordpress templates altogether.
- Free to list your auction.
- Pretty good marketplace for .PSD mockups and vBulletin skins.
- Very little to no spam making its way to your inbox.
- Auctions are not legally binding.
- Most of the time the least active of the 3 websites.
- Just a forum style posting. No bells and whistles like found on Sitepoint.
Please note that this article isn’t meant to belittle any of the above websites and is based entirely on a little over a year’s worth of auctioning. Also, what doesn’t work for one freelancer could very well work wonders for you, so go experiment with them all!
